I'm reading a delightfully thoughtful book: The Intellectual by Steve Fuller. One commentator writes that, Steve Fuller highlights the contributions that intellectuals can make to society, especially in a time of turbulence. “Like Batman scouring the skies of Gotham City for the bat signal requesting his services,” he writes, “the intellectual reads the news as hidden appeals for guidance from a desperate world.”
For those interested, there are two essays: So You Call Yourself an Intellectual? by Steve Fuller and a review by Douglas Kellner, which has a response by Fuller.
